For many with an entrepreneurial spirit, their first job has become a career opportunity leading them to open and operate their own SUBWAY® restaurant. Take Jason Mosely of Mocksville, North Carolina. Jason said he always wanted to manage a restaurant, but never thought about owning one. When he began his college education he saw himself as a future computer programmer. After a short time, Jason switched his major to business management, a decision that eventually led him towards owning his own business and becoming his own boss. “I started as an assistant manager with a Subway restaurant in Mt. Airy, North Carolina,” said Jason.

“When the manager left a month later, I stepped in.” The rest is history. 'To me, the appeal has always been that Subway does not serve alcohol, there are no grills and you don't turn your back to customers.

I enjoy the face-to-face contact. I love going to work everyday. I'm really happy - and very pleased with the set-up at Subway.' We are particularly passionate about heart health and doing our part to fight childhood obesity by encouraging healthy eating habits and living active lifestyles.

Coronary artery disease is the most common form of heart disease and is a leading cause of death worldwide. Every year about 870,000 Americans die from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. A major factor is poor lifestyle habits prevalent among American adults and children. SUBWAY® restaurants is proud to be partnering with the American College of Cardiologists (ACC), a national sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Start! Movement which encourages men & women to walk and live a more active lifestyle. Walking has the lowest dropout rate of any physical activity, and it’s the simplest positive change people can make to improve their heart health.

It doesn’t take much time – just 30 minutes most days of the week. You can even divide the 30 minutes into two or three intervals if that’s more convenient. We support community groups in the United Kingdom which can apply to Heart Research UK for a SUBWAY®/ HRUK Healthy Heart Grant for projects that strongly promote heart health and healthy lifestyles. We are a proud sponsor of The American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs. Both are national, educational programs that also engage children in physical activity (jumping rope for elementary grades and basketball for secondary grade levels) while raising funds to support life saving heart and stroke research. Helping students in their quest for higher education is the foundation that the SUBWAY® restaurant system was built on. In 1965, President and Co-founder Fred DeLuca, was a 17-year-old.
